Objective(s) : children should be able to:
1• identify the difference between metals and non-metals

2• Create a bar graph to show how many objects are metals and how many are non-metals

3• Report their finding using simple sentences

RESOURCES:
Metal and non-metal objects e.g coin, tins, safety pins, plastics, exercise book, nail, pencil, crayon, etc.

N.B: Parents move around the home with your child both indoor and outdoor to find items.

ACTIVITIES:
Parents you will be assisting your child with the experiment to distinguish metals from non-metals objects.

1• Place all objects that were collected on a flat surface

2• Invite your child to select an item from the group ask them if they think it might be magnetic or not. Let them say why do they think it is or isn’t?

3• Allow your child to place magnet over the different objects and observe what happens.

4• Ask your child to place objects in two groups (objects that were picked up by the magnet and those that did not).

5• Assist your child to create a bar graph with two columns on plain paper and label each column

7• Parents question your child about their findings e.g

ACTIVITIES:
Parents and child role play standing on the medal podium and receiving a medal. They will discuss who collects first, second and third, and where they will stand. Child will write these ordinal numbers in the their notebook complete work sheet on Ordinal Numbers
2• Parents and child will use items in the environment for building blocks if there are no real ones available and place them in order
3• Parents and child will watch video links and make a cube and cuboid
4• Parents and child will discuss and list the similarities and differences between the Cube and the Cuboid

3• Create a “Jamaican sports celebrity wall” to capture at least 5 different sporting activities

Blank paper, newspaper, laptop, cellphone, pencil, counters, notebook, newspaper clip, scrapbook, glue, coloured old newspaper/construction paper, child friendly scissor

ACTIVITIES:
1• Child will share sporting activities using a ball. As child shares. Parent will write information shared.
2• Parent will read the short on sporting activities and help child to build a pictograph
3• Child will create a sport celebrity wall with artwork or newspaper clips. Parent guide child in the cutting and pasting process use torn coloured newspaper or construction paper for the border
4• Parent will guide child into finding and grouping words beginning with Gg and words ending with Gg. (See Gg word list) child will complete worksheets given.
5• Parent and child will create sets to make 11 by following the pattern below:
» If I have three(3) how many more will I need to make 11?
» If I have four(4) how many more will I need to make 11?
» If I have five(5) how many more will I need to make 11?

Child will draw sets to show what was being done with counters then complete the worksheets attached.
